Refreshing an Icon
When one of the most celebrated resorts in North America needed a face lift, who did they call? Possibly their original design team at BBA.
Charles McDiarmid, Managing Director at the Wickaninnish Inn shares his story. "Its been more than 17 years since we first made magic with Sharon Bortolotto, Madeline Eng and the talented team at BBA Design Consultants. When it was time to refresh our Inn, there was no question in my mind who we should invite to assist us yet again with another major project at the Wickaninnish Inn."
The project scope was indeed ambitious as the owners of the world famous inn wanted more than "just a touch up" to their 45 original guest rooms.
Instead, they sought to raise the west wing suites to the five-star standard that had been achieved, with BBA's help, in their Beach Building rooms.
The Wickaninnish owners envisioned a complete guestroom makeover including all flooring, millwork, trim, lighting and artwork, as well as all new bathrooms with new fixtures, finishes, hardware, in-floor heating and much, much more.
"Of course, it was equally important to maintain our connection to our own natural environment and so, wood, stone and glass are again generously incorporated with just a slightly more refined approach", Charles commented, "This is very much in keeping with our west coast aesthetic but with a contemporary comfortable flair that says, "Welcome back to your home away from home... with all of the details taken care of".
